Recorder

The Office of the Iowa County Recorder was created by the First Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Iowa in 1839. Since the creation of the County Recorder’s office, numerous additional responsibilities have been added over the years.

The Recorder is the home for all real estate transactions from the 1850s to present day. Military discharges, certified copies of birth, death, and marriage records are available in the Recorder's Office. Applications for marriage licenses and passports can also be found here. The Recorder's Office assists the Iowa DNR by registering boats, jet skis, 4-wheelers (ATV), side-by-sides (ORV), snowmobiles, dirt bikes (ORM). Additionally, the Recorder's Office issues all Iowa DNR resident and non-resident hunting and fishing licenses, deer tags, turkey tags, and other tags.
