The Pottawattamie County Veterans Service Office (VSO) is excited to launch their mobile service office. The route for the mobile office covers all of the communities throughout the county. The mobile office will be in Carter Lake to support Pottawattamie County residents the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the City Hall parking lot. A VSO caseworker will be available and offering the same services that are also available at the VSO location in Council Bluffs. If given prior notice, the VSO staff is able to bring a pantry order with them. VSO clients are able to book appointments in this location in the same way they can book appointments in Council Bluffs.
Walk-ins are welcome, however appointments are recommended. The VSO staff leaves promptly at 3 pm, so please plan accordingly and allow enough time to meet with your caseworker.

Have you always been interested in wild foods, but don't know where to start? If so, then come see what delicious delicacies the Early Autumn forest has to offer. As we walk through and explore the amazing abundance September provides, we'll learn all about the importance of proper plant identification. We'll examine some of the dangers associated with foraging and how to avoid them. We'll talk about ethical harvest and how to be a good member of the natural community. We'll also take a look at some of the ways these plants can be prepared as foods. And, importantly, we'll discuss some ways of incorporating these plants into your own landscape.

Help save lives by donating blood at the Pottawattamie County Blood Drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. Blood donations are essential for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, trauma care, and other medical emergencies. Just one donation can help save up to three lives.
The blood drive will take place in the training room on the main floor of the Public Health building on Wednesday, September 23 from 9 am - 3 pm. Parking is available on the south side of the building.
Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled through the American Red Cross at RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donors should bring a photo ID and be sure to eat a healthy meal and stay hydrated before donating.
