Cattle Grazing
Pottawattamie Conservation desires to utilize cattle grazing to help increase species diversity in prairie reconstructions. Sealed bids will be received by the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board (PCCB) at the Natural Areas Management Barn at Hitchcock Nature Center located at 27792 Ski Hill Loop, Honey Creek, Iowa 51542 by 01/016/25 for cash rent of 38 acres of prairie at Farm Creek Public Wildlife Area – 48838 Chestnut Road, Griswold, Iowa 51535.
Lease Amendments
- Lease term approximately June 1, 2025 – August 28, 2025.
- Stocking rate of ~12 AU required.
- Owner will provide fence and water.
- Custom grazing - owner reserves right to cancel lease with 1 week notice if site conditions become incompatible with ecological goals.
- No mowing, haying, fertilizing, pesticide application, or tree/brush removal permitted.
- Bidders not feeding cattle ingestible insecticides will be given preference. (Injectable insecticides permitted.)
- Hikers will be allowed in grazing units
