Payment Plan/Driver License Reinstatement Program

The County Attorney’s Office offers a payment plan to assist in the payment of delinquent fines.

Participating in the payment plan may allow you to get your driver’s license back, register a motor vehicle, and/or renew your license plates. You only need to fill out one application.

Driver's License Reinstatement

If your driver license has been suspended due to nonpayment of fines, you may be eligible to regain your driving privileges by entering into a payment plan with the County Attorney’s Office. We may be able to include traffic fines from other counties in your payment plan, as well as civil penalties owed to the Iowa Department of Transportation. Complete the Payment Plan Application.  After we process your Application:

  1. We will send a letter by mail or email enclosing your payment plan agreement(s).
  2. When you received the letter there will be instructions on what you need to do, please read that    carefully and provide everything requested.
  3. We will file the plan with the court.  Generally, it takes 1 to 2 weeks to get a lift on the suspension of your driver’s license.

NOTE:  There may be other reasons that the Department of Transportation will not allow you to obtain a driver’s license; you should contact the Department of Transportation for more information.

Motor Vehicle Registration/License Plate Renewal

If your ability to register a motor vehicle or renew license plates has been suspended because of unpaid court fines and costs, the County Attorney’s Payment Plan may be able to help.  Complete the Payment Plan Application (this is the same Application as above – you only need to fill out one Application).  After we process your Application:

  1. We will send a letter by mail or email enclosing your payment plan agreement(s).
  2. When you received the letter there will be instructions on what you need to do, please read that carefully and provide everything requested.
  3. When you go to register your vehicle, you can come to our office and get a release prior to registering your vehicle.

NOTE:  You must have a regular source of income and owe more than $500 in court fines, costs, etc.
