Town Hall Meeting

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors is hosting a town hall meeting in Oakland, Iowa on Thursday, April 3rd, from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. The informational discussion will take place at the Oakland Community Center located at 614 Dr. Van Zee Road, with no formal deliberation or action from the Board of Supervisors. Several county departments will share presentations and updates from their teams and the meeting will conclude with a question-and-answer session for those in attendance.

Hunter Education Field Day

Join us for an Iowa DNR-certified Hunter Education Field Day course where students will learn the vital basics of hunting including wildlife identification, first aid, firearm and archery safety, and more. Hunter Education Field Day courses are offered by knowledgeable and certified volunteer instructors and Iowa Conservation Officers.

Monthly Avoca Passport Day

On the second Wednesday of each month, the Recorder's Office sets up shop at the Avoca Courthouse to provide greater access to the passport process to residents on the eastern side of the county. Passport services are offered from 9am-2pm each of the dates listed below.

Spring Medicinal & Edible Plant Walk with Dustin Clayton

Spring is in full swing! Take a guided spring hike and discover all the edible and medicinal plants that are beginning to emerge this time of year. Become familiar with interesting spring folklore and seasonal practices associated with the coming of May. Learn how fairy tales and traditional stories contain a lexicon for being in dialogue with the natural world. Battery IQ Response Training

This is one of the newest classes in the IQ style class line up.   This is developed by the same group that brought us HAZMAT IQ.   This is a great class sponsored by our state taskforce.

This is all things lithium ion batteries, from cell phones, car batteries, up to large battery storage.   Great class for understand lithium ion batteries, and dealing with these emergencies.

Please email Clif Anderson, caanderson@councilbulffs-ia.gov, by 5pm Wednesday, March 28th,  if you plan to attend.

This class is limited to 30 people.

Arrowhead Trail Run

Arrowhead Trail Run is a 5k marked course at Arrowhead Park.  Choose the traditional 5k distance, 2 laps for a 10k, or complete as many laps as you can in a 4 hour Enduro!  Medals will be awarded for the top 10 males and females in the 5k, 10k and 4 Hour Enduro event categories.  ALL are welcome to run, jog, walk or hike at your own pace.

Litter Busters Park Cleanup | Hitchcock

Follow in the footsteps of the Dump Busters, who saved Hitchcock from becoming a dump, by joining our annual park cleanup.

Did you know that Hitchcock Nature Center's Loess Hills beauty and remnant prairie systems were almost turned into a bottled water factory, and then of all things, a dump!? Thankfully, local community members came together, put their feet down, and fought to protect this beautiful area. They're known as the Dump Busters! The trail Angel's Dead End is named after Mike Angel who purchased this land in the late-1980s and was set on profiting from it. Bulldozed Valley, which can be seen from the Loess Hills Lodge observation deck, as well as the trail Dozer Cut, was partially formed by bulldozers when Angel owned the property and was actively working to turn it into a dump. We will be forever grateful to the hundreds of community members who rallied together to save this area for generations to come.

Veterans Resource Festival

Join the Pottawattamie County Veterans Service Office for the First Annual Veterans Resource Festival on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. 

We will have raffles, games, and dozens of resources for veterans, current service members, and families. 

Representatives will be onsite from veteran-based organizations, military and veteran student services departments, veteran-related programs from local resources, as well as federal, state, and county service providers. For more information, visit the events section of the Veterans Service Office page. 

This event is free and open to the public. 

Boat Registration Deadline

New and/or transferred vessels are registered with the Pottawattamie County Recorder. All boat registrations will expire on April 30, 2025. Boat registration is valid for three years. A late fee of $5.00 will apply starting on May 1. Boat fees are based on the length and type of the boat. 

Renewals can be done at any County Recorder's office. 

Initial registrations need to be in the county the boat is housed at.
