Attorney Civil Division

The Civil Division serves as legal counsel to the County’s Board of Supervisors, elected officials, and county departments.

The Civil Division is responsible for representing and advising all county offices, departments, committees, and boards as well as representing the county in civil court and administrative proceedings.

Under Iowa law, the Civil Division, cannot represent nor give legal advice to private citizens. 

The Civil Division appears on behalf of the County and/or the State of Iowa in a variety of court and administrative proceedings such as violations of the County’s zoning laws and ordinances, mental health commitment proceedings, post-conviction proceedings, and property assessment appeals. The Civil Division is also responsible for the County’s Fine Collection and License Reinstatement Program.
