Check Enforcement Program

The County Attorney operates a Check Enforcement Program as a means of lowering the impact of bad check crime on local businesses.  This service is completely FREE to all Pottawattamie County Merchants.  Merchants will receive 100% of any check successfully recovered plus a victim fee.  It is the goal of the County Attorney to help merchants keep the reveune the business earns, and make bad check writers responsible for their crime.

Passing a bad check hurts our entire community; accordingly the County Attorney requires bad check writers to make restitution and pass an educational course focusing on effectively managing finances and the consequences of failing to do so.

The County Attorney hopes businesses never expirence crime.  However, should a business encounter frustration with bad check customers due to insufficient funds and closed accounts; the County Attorney encourages you to make use of the Check Enforcement Program.  Register online at and obtain the necessary forms to begin submitting complaints.
