The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors is looking to appoint two (2) individuals to the Board of Appeals.
The Board of Appeals is made up of citizens appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a five-year term.
The Board of Appeals hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the Building Official or designee relative to the application and interpretation of the adopted Codes. The Building Official or designee shall be an ex-officio member of and shall act as Secretary to the Board of Appeals but shall have no vote on any matter. The members are chosen from residents of Pottawattamie County of which three of the members are general or home building contractors and two of the members have a good understanding of building construction with preference given to architects and engineers.
The Board of Appeals acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors in regard to the adopted codes, construction, development requirements and related matters of interest to the County. They are governed by provisions of the Code of Iowa and the Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Code in Chapter 10.011.
Members are paid $25 per diem and round-trip mileage from their home to the courthouse for each meeting they attend.
The Board of Appeals meets monthly, if needed. Typically, the Board of Appeals' meetings are scheduled for the fourth Thursday of the month.
