Pottawattamie County Public Health is announcing the hiring of a PRN Public Health Registered Nurse - ITS.
An individual in this position performs intermediate skilled human support work conducting HIV and STI tests, contacting patients, entering and filing medical records, administering vaccinations, distributing condoms, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Public Health Administrator.
This is a flexible, part-time position, working up to 16 hours per week as needed or as the schedule demands.Performs comprehensive individual and family assessments, administers immunizations and direct client care.
Performs HIV and STI testing, treatment and counseling; provides referrals and recommendations to patients.
Collects lab specimens and/or performs testing, reviews and interprets lab results; performs phlebotomy work. Contacts patients with test results; enters medical records into state data system.
Coordinates with local businesses to distribute condoms.
Develops, implements and coordinates specific disease prevention, health promotion and health education programs as assigned. Prepares information for public dissemination.
Attends health fairs and collaborates with outside organization on health promotion and disease prevention.
General knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of practical and vocational nursing
General knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of drugs and other medication
General knowledge of treatment, assessment, immunization and related medical services
General knowledge of local and State rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services
General knowledge of the principles of public health services; general knowledge of the methods of organizing, coordinating and carrying out health and wellness programs
Skill in administering examinations, tests and treatment
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment
Skill in excellent customer service; skill in administering shots and vaccinations
Ability to exercise judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
Ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in nursing, or related field preferred. Moderate experience in public health nursing operations, conducting disease and infection testing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of State of Iowa Board of Nursing Registered Nurse certification or hold a multistate license in a state that recognizes reciprocity in the Nurse Licensure Compact upon hire.
Possession of Red Cross CPR certification, BLS, and State of Iowa Department of Human Services Child and Adult Abuse certification upon hire.
Obtain Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, and 700 training, basic epidemiology training, St. Louis Prevention Training Center certification, blood borne pathogen, Respirator Fit Test, and CBSS Manual training within 6 months of hire.
Valid driver's license.
