Board of Supervisors Recognizes April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 2025 — The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, reinforcing the County’s commitment to ensuring all children grow up in safe, nurturing, and supportive environments.

The proclamation, approved during the Board’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 8, acknowledges the critical role positive childhood experiences play in lifelong health and well-being. It also highlights the importance of strong families and community support systems in preventing abuse and neglect.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive,” said the Board of Supervisors. “By investing in families and supporting caregivers, we can create the kind of environment where children feel safe, valued, and loved.”

Throughout the proclamation, the Board emphasized that preventing child abuse is a collective responsibility. It calls on all citizens to recognize the long-term impact of childhood trauma and take part in building strong, connected communities that prioritize family well-being.
