Pottawattamie County, Iowa – Pottawattamie County is announcing the launch of its new website, bringing several improvements to online functionality and appearance.
The redesigned website, PottCounty-ia.gov, was publicly launched on September 4th, following months of strategic planning. The site replaces a model that had been in place since May 2020, and addresses key elements in the county’s communication strategies. Previously, several departments operated ancillary websites not tied directly to the county’s website. Now, online users can conduct more business in one location.
“We are merging in Conservation, Elections, Emergency Management, and Public Health sites,” said Pottawattamie County Chief Information Officer David Bayer. “This will make online searching easier and create a one-stop-shop for our citizens to access services.”
The improved user experience includes the option for visitors to subscribe to county notifications, including meeting notices, bid notices, and news items posted to the website. Accessibility concerns have also been addressed in serving blind, colorblind, and visitors whose first language isn’t English. The advancements are part of a county commitment to deliver clear communication as quickly and efficiently as possible.
“Our website is the digital front door to all the services the county provides,” said Bayer. “It’s important the front door is easy to use, logical, and looks nice. The new website accomplishes that.”
Other notable features for the new site include a user-friendly webpage for online services, and an enhanced visual display, using video images. The website was developed by Neapolitan Labs. The Des Moines-based company has worked with Pottawattamie County since 2019 and has a client base that includes more than 25 counties nationwide.
“We've really appreciated our long-term relationship with Pottawattamie County,” said Brian McMillin, President of Neapolitan Labs. “They were one of our first clients in the county government space, and their partnership has been a foundational part of our growth. This new website represents a culmination of many new and exciting features to make the website easier to use than ever, for both residents and employees."
