April 2025 — The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation officially recognizing April as National County Government Month (NCGM). This annual observance—coordinated by National Association of Counties (NACo)—offers counties an opportunity to spotlight the broad array of services they provide and the dedicated workforce behind them.
Counties serve as the cornerstone of local government, delivering programs and services that affect nearly every aspect of daily life. From maintaining roads and bridges to public health, safety, emergency response, and elections, Pottawattamie County plays a central role in supporting community well-being and long-term resilience.
“Counties fulfill a vast range of responsibilities and deliver services that touch nearly every aspect of our residents' lives,” said the Board of Supervisors in the proclamation. “Pottawattamie County and all counties take pride in our responsibility to protect and enhance the health, wellbeing and safety of our residents in efficient and cost-effective ways.”
Pottawattamie County invites residents to learn more about how local government works and how to get involved. Throughout the month, county departments will share updates, spotlight services, and celebrate the people who serve our residents every day.
