Pottawattamie County, Iowa – As leaves cascade from trees signifying the end of fall, Pottawattamie County Conservation is shifting its focus to the next season. Ski season at Mt. Crescent is set to open in mid-December, and the department is looking for talented applicants to fill seasonal positions at the county-operated venue.

“We have roughly 60 opportunities available for people looking for seasonal work,” said Mark Shoemaker, Executive Director of Pottawattamie County Conservation. “We’ll host a job fair on November 5th at Mt. Crescent Ski Area from 9am to 1pm, and we’re looking forward to getting our team in place for the upcoming season.”

Applicants will have the opportunity to pursue roles in several areas including food and beverage support, guest services, maintenance, and the rental shop. Age requirements for positions vary from fourteen and older to over eighteen. Background checks and drug screens will be included as part of the hiring process. The number of positions available for application exceeds what Pottawattamie County normally offers county-wide, annually, creating a unique hiring situation.

“We’re excited about the possibilities for employment this offers so many people,” said Jana Lemrick, Director of Pottawattamie County Human Resources. “Our staff will be on-hand during the job fair to answer any questions and help guide quality applicants towards roles that best suit their skills. It’ll be a fun event.”

Mt. Crescent Ski Area offers runs of varying difficulty levels for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. The natural slopes and man-made snow ensure a 100% chance of downhill fun every winter. The facility is equipped with 2 chair lifts and is tucked away in the beautiful and globally significant Loess Hills. Open season is partially dictated by local weather patterns, but Shoemaker expects it to run from December 2022 to March 2023.
