Pottawattamie County, Iowa – Pottawattamie County is proud to celebrate Public Health Nurse Carol Timm, as the recent recipient of the Mike Barker Lifetime Achievement Award from the Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC).
Founded in 1977, HSAC is comprised of more than 50 member agencies seeking to synergize the efforts of non-profit organizations in and around Council Bluffs to maximize their impact. Timm was officially honored at the HSAC Recognition Luncheon on December 8th.
“I’m overwhelmed to receive this award,” said Timm. “I have been most excited to see how much Pottawattamie County Public Health has grown the last four years and how our agency has become the go-to in the community for education and service. It’s an honor to be recognized like this,” she said.
As part of her 55-year career as a registered nurse, Timm joined Pottawattamie County Public Health in April of 2020. She credits her family for instilling the values she carries today.
“My dad was a quiet, kind, caring person who always told us kids ‘Take the world as you find it, but leave it better,’” said Timm. “I encourage all of us to continue caring and sharing for this community, as we have been.”
Maria Tores, Health Equity Coordinator for Pottawattamie County Public Health, presented Timm with the award, noting her positive influence on those around her.
“Her selflessness has a ripple effect, inspiring those around her to be more compassionate and kind,” said Torres. “Carol’s actions serve as a guiding light, reminding us of the profound impact that one caring individual can have on the world.”
Pottawattamie County Public Health Administrator Maria Sieck says Timm’s experience and leadership play a pivotal role in accomplishing department initiatives.
“We do our best to serve the needs of our community, and we are undoubtedly a stronger team with Carol’s involvement,” said Sieck. “This award is so well-deserved, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate her impact within our department and our entire community.”
The Mike Barker Award is named after the former assistant director of Children’s Square USA. It recognizes the recipient’s distinguished career in human services and his/her contribution to the community through participation and leadership in HSAC.
