Disaster Relief

Below are services open to assisting those affected by the recent storm. Our office has guest wi-fi access for veterans affected by the storm who need access to the internet. Please call our office if you are a veteran in need of an emergency pantry.

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management

DAV - Disaster Relief for Veterans

The Dav offers financial assistance and disaster relief supply kits for wounded veterans affected by local disasters. To apply, visit their website or call 515-323-7539. Our office can assist with the application process.  Call our office 712-328-5797 to schedule an appointment.  In order to be eligible, the following criteria must be met: 

  • Applicant must be an ill, injured, or wounded veteran or the spouse thereof living in the same household; or a surviving spouse in receipt of Death Compensation or Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC); or a surviving spouse of a former Prisoner of War (POW); or a surviving spouse of an ill, injured or wounded veteran whose life was lost in the recent disaster. Applicant does not need to be a member or in receipt of service-connected compensation to be eligible.
  • Applicant must be the victim of either an isolated or large-scale disaster.
  • Applicant must be in immediate need of financial assistance, at the time of the disaster, as they do not have available funds to pay for acquired expenses. Example: Veteran is covered by homeowners insurance, but will not receive compensation from the insurance for the incident until several days out.

Visit the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management and Homeland Security website to report damage or to access disaster relief assistance from Iowa programs.  

Local VA Care Clinics

The VA Urgent Care Clinic in Council Bluffs is located at 808 E Pierce St. Call 712-396-4340 to confirm the hours of operation and services offered.

VA Notification Line

If you are admitted to a local emergency room but the VA is your primary healthcare provider, the VA needs to be notified of your hospital stay within 72 hours of admittance. Call the VA notification line at 844-724-7842.
