Suicide Prevention

Suicide Prevention training equips First Responders with the skills to recognize and address suicide risks in both the public and themselves.

Due to the high-stress nature of their work, they face increased risks of mental health challenges like depression, PTSD, and suicide.

This training promotes awareness, reduces stigma, and encourages early intervention, fostering a supportive culture that prioritizes mental health.

Please contact Lewis Township FD prior to the training to report the number of participants to ensure there is space and equipment available.

Science Behind Trauma

The Science Behind Trauma is an essential educational training equipping First Responders with the knowledge of what occurs in the brain and body following trauma.

The goal of this training is to enhance the ability of First Responders to recognize, understand, and appropriately address both the psychological and the physical impacts of trauma.

It also aims to educate First Responders to reduce the risk of secondary trauma or compassion fatigue among themselves.

Wildland Firefighter Field Training

Pottawattamie Conservation is offering a Field Training Session for the Basic Wildland Firefighter training (commonly referred to as S-130/S-190).  The coursework is 30-40 hours online and requires successful completion of a field training session.  Participants are expected to independently complete ALL of the online training PRIOR to the field training session. County firefighters interested can sign up by emailing Conservation to receive the info they need to complete the training.
